Every year, avalanches are one of the leading causes of death among backcountry enthusiasts. Our home turf, Colorado, consistently leads the nation in avalanche fatalities. If you are a backcountry skier, split boarder, snowshoer, snowmobiler, mountaineer, ice climber or anyone else who is planning on spending time in high, snowy country, you need to be prepared. Avalanches don’t discriminate.
In this free online avalanche awareness course, our expert guides give an introduction to how avalanches happen, what they look like, how to avoid them, what avalanche safety gear you need and how to gain the skills and knowledge needed to make good decisions in the backcountry. This is a great first step in avalanche education and doubles as a regular refresher course.
Our instructors are certified by the American Avalanche Institute to teach avalanche courses, and they also spend some 300 days a year guiding and recreating in the field—they know snow from an academic and practical perspective, and they are excited to share their knowledge with you.

Notes:
If you’d like a live webinar presentation tailored to your company or organization, please contact info@coloradomountainschool.com or call us at 720-387-8944. This is NOT a replacement for a formal avalanche training course with real practice in the field. We strongly recommend you supplement this course with at least an Level 1 decision-making course.

I understand now how I have probably been inches from death previously and basically got lucky that I haven’t had a serious incident. I cannot wait to use the knowledge from the course to stay safe, stay informed, and stay involved.
