This program is designed to better prepare candidates for the AMGA Advanced Rock Guides Course and Aspirant Exam. This is a photo of AMGA Rock Guide Training Course that took place in Boulder, Colorado, Flatirons.

This program is designed to better prepare candidates for the AMGA Advanced Rock Guides Course and Aspirant Exam.  The course will enhance skills taught in the Rock Guide Course and streamline techniques expected at the Advanced level.  Though lecture, demonstration and practical application, the students will refine and expand their skill set.  Students will be mentored under the tutelage of AMGA IT member, IFMGA Licensed Mountain Guide, and Colorado Mountain School Head Guide Eric Whewell.  The program will be based out of Boulder and Estes Park, CO.  Additionally, representative aspirant exam style routes will be used as mock guiding objectives to further develop the students resume to be accepted to the Advanced program.

Day 1: 8-5pm

  •  Introductions
  • Risk Management Discussion
  • Anchoring practicum and stance management with considerations for security and speed
  • Transitions practicum with considerations for advanced application at a 2:1 ratio
  • Short Rope practicum with emphasis at 2:1

Day 2: 8-5pm

  • Rock Rescue Q and A
  • Rock Rescue Practicum
  • Short Rope Practicum with transitions

Day 3: 8-5pm

  • Candidate led guided objectives

Day 4: 8-5pm

  • Candidate led guided objectives
  • Debriefs
