Learn to Lead Trad

Learning to lead traditional routes properly is one of the best investments a climber can make. Colorado Mountain School has a long history of teaching climbers to lead. This two-day course is packed with vital instruction and practice. Upon completion, you will be better prepared to tie into the sharp end of the rope in Eldo, Yosemite, or wherever your climbing career takes you.

Course Details

Overview:

Learn to lead trad with the latest and safest techniques and equipment.

Topics include:

  • Avoid beginner mistakes and break bad habits
  • Learn proper leading techniques from a professional guide
  • Set bombproof anchors
  • Evaluate hazards thoroughly
  • Understand route-finding issues
  • Place quality protection
  • Learn basic rescue techniques

 

Prerequisites:

Proficient at top-roping, Experience lead belaying

Time:

8:00am - 4:00pm

8 hours

Lodging:

With a sixteen-bed lodge available exclusively to Colorado Mountain School students, SPI candidates are welcome to reserve a bed, but should be aware that there course meets each morning in Boulder - approximately a 50 minute drive from our logde.  Our lodge is located in downtown Estes Park with a full kitchen, WiFi and hot showers. Lodging must be book separately for $30/night.  Please call our office for reservations.
