5 Day Introductory Rock Climbing Development Series

The Rock Climbing Development Series – Level 1 course is a five-day immersion into the sport of rock climbing.  This complete introduction to rock climbing turns first-timers into solid intermediate-level climbers and introduces students to the multi-pitch climbing experience.  Learn to climbing like a rock star by building a solid foundation of the knowledge, skills, and movement required to get into the sport.

Details:

Routes are not predetermined.  Our guides will make the decision during the outing based on the interests and ability levels of participants.  Potential climbing areas include Eldorado Canyon, Boulder Canyon and The Flatirons.

Sample Itinerary:

Day 1:
Intro to Rock: Learn how to manage a belay point and rappel, Practice basic rock-climbing knots, Get comfortable belaying outside, Learn the latest in safe climbing techniques, Practice basics immediately, Learn how anchors and climbing systems work

Day 2:
Intermediate Technique: Improve your footwork, Learn to plan sequences, Try crack, slab and steep climbing

Day 3:
Climbing Anchors: Learn to build top-rope and multi-pitch anchors at the highest standard, Assess anchor quality

Day 4:
Multi-pitch preparation: Understand how a multi-pitch system works, Lead belaying, Following traditional lead climbs, Removing gear and racking protection

Day 5:
Bring all your skills together on a multi-pitch rock route.

Please Note: If you are the sole attendee of this course, it will be run in four days, not five.

Lodging:

Colorado Mountain School offers a 16 bunk lodge that is conveniently located upstairs from our office and classroom in downtown Estes Park (1 hour north of Boulder).  The lodge features a full kitchen, WiFi, a lounge and hot showers. Reserve a bed now for just $40 per night (plus tax).
