Ben grew up in Minnesota and went on his first week-long backcountry trip via canoe at 6-months-old. He has been hooked ever since.  His climbing and skiing story started in Colorado during bi-annual trips to visit the family where a lifelong interest in the mountains began.

Over the past 8 years, he has worked as an outdoor educator and has over 5 years of experience working in Colorado as a professional guide and educator.  In the summer you’ll find him working out in Washington guiding the glaciated volcanos and technical climbs of the North Cascades.

Ben loves teaching others about the mountains as much as he enjoys playing in them himself. He strives to help his guests be participants and partners in the process of climbing and skiing mountains so that they get the most out of the experience.

In his free time, you’ll most likely find him climbing up something to ski down it, taking photos, and writing about trips. You can check out what he’s been up to lately at his website: BenMarkhart.com or on Instagram @benmarkhart.

“Epic Day”

I had an absolutely epic day in Rocky Mountain National Park with my ski mountaineering guide, Ben. He customized the day to my exact needs (I wanted to learn more about skimo and also glacier travel techniques). We climbed and skied 3 big couloirs with awesome snow! Would highly recommend.
