“I learned to rock climb back home in Mexico in 1997 and loved it right away.  Soon after, I started sharing my passion for rock climbing by teaching friends and other individuals. I taught for many years as a hobby until I decided to pursue my dream job and moved to Boulder, Colorado in 2009 to become a rock-climbing and mountaineering guide.

Bernardo Beteta

I started guiding in 2011 and have been a climbing instructor at the Boulder Rock Club since 2012. I joined the Colorado Mountain School in 2013 and have loved guiding for them since. I feel very fortunate that I can combine my passions for teaching, climbing and the outdoors with my work.”

Testimonials

“Extraordinary Professionalism and Competence”

I want to commend Bob Chase and Sarah Janin for their extraordinary professionalism and competence while guiding my climb up Long’s Peak via the North Face on August 27, 2019.  Throughout the entire climb they exhibited incredible patience, support of my efforts, teamwork, and attention to safety.  Although I have trained with Bob for some time, as well as with Sarah and two of your other excellent guides (Bernardo Beteta and Ryan Pedersen), none of us knew how well, at the age of 84, I would tolerate the altitude, as well as the stress associated with climbing for 16 hours.  But they worked with me, had faith in me, and we finally pulled it off.  Also, I want to give special recognition to Bob for the flawless manner in which he planned, organized and executed the entire project.  While I have climbed in Patagonia (Torres del Paine), climbed seven fourteeners in my younger days, and participated in two treks in the Himalayas years ago, nothing compares with this mountaineering experience.  You should be very proud of your guides and the quality experience they provided me.

“Patient, Knowledgeable, and Extremely Fun”

I cannot recommend Jesse, Bob, and Bernardo at CMS enough. They were kind, patient, knowledgeable, and extremely fun to learn Intro to Mountaineering from. On day 1 we were taught all of the techniques needed to safely travel on snow in the mountains. On day 2 Jesse took us up a beautiful route on Hallet’s Couloir that rewarded our challenge with incredible views and an unforgettable experience. We will definitely be back for more courses with CMS!

“Very Knowledgeable”

Our guide, Bernardo, lead us up the fandango route on the first flatiron. We had a great day of climbing. Bernardo was very knowledgeable and we were very confident in his skills and abilities. We highly recommend the Colorado mountain school.

“Highly Recommend”

An excellent guided climbing experience! I went on a couple half-day climbs out at Eldorado Canyon with two different guides (Bernardo and Mike). Both are very professional, friendly and safe. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a guide in the Boulder area.
