Clint began climbing in 1997 and was immediately impassioned. “Climbing is much more than a sport to me,” he says. “It is a very deep and multi-layered experience that defines much of who I am. It is a physical, aesthetic, and emotional outlet, a social fulcrum, and at times even a meditation.”

Clint enjoys helping others experience the beauty of the mountains, and he believes the full climbing experience can only be achieved through a thoughtful balance of passion, adventure, calculation, and safety.

Aside from his work with CMS, Clint also teaches English at Pomona High School in Arvada, Colorado. “I believe I have the perfect life. Nothing could be better than being able to combine two of my passions in life: climbing and teaching.”

Clint has guided for Colorado Mountain School since 2006. He is an AMGA certified Single Pitch Instructor, has successfully completed the AMGA Rock Guide Course, and is a certified Wilderness First Responder. When he’s not at work or hanging out with his wife and two children, Clint can often be found scampering around somewhere in his second home–Eldorado Canyon.

Testimonials

“Kind and Patient”

Just went out for a day of trad climbing with Clint Locks, who picked great routes, explained things thoroughly, and was kind and patient in the face of endless questions.

“Clint Locks is Fantastic!”

Clint Locks is fantastic!  He’s been our climbing guide for several years. He is patient and thoughtful, explains things very well, and chooses great routes. He’s also smart, articulate and engaging. Above all, he is meticulous about safety and emphasizes that constantly throughout the day.

“Having Fun the Entire Time”

We did the one day lead climbing clinic up Boulder Canyon with Clint. We went to Cascade Crag we did a pretty decent amount of climbing given our group size (3 to 1 instructor) and the fact that we were learning the ropes (yes pun intended) of outdoor lead climbing all in 8 hours. Great guide, made sure we were safe and having fun the entire time. Definitely boosted my confidence, enough that I went and did multi-pitch trad route down in Eldorado canyon the very next day with friends who had more experience climbing outside.

“We Felt Completely Safe With Clint”

My husband and I met Clint Locks on top of the Wind Tower in Eldorado Canyon. He was very pleasant and helpful from the start. He mentioned he was a guide and offered to take us out if we wanted.

We booked him for a day of multi-pitch climbing in Estes Park and this turned out to be a great decision. Our goal for the day was to learn as much as we could about climbing in and around Boulder and RMNP as well as have a great day out climbing. Clint delivered on both – he has climbed in the area for many years and knows all the best spots. He is also a great teacher. As for the climbing, we did Pear Buttress, a superb climb, and we felt completely safe with Clint leading us up.

During our time in Boulder we met a couple of other CMS guides and they were also very pleasant and professional. We would highly recommend CMS guides and Clint in particular.

Finally, don’t be hesitant to hire a guide during the pandemic. The guides and guests are required to wear masks and the guides give guests hand sanitizer before and after climbing. All guests are also screened before their outing.
