Introducing the Future of Avalanche Training…

Snow Pack Logo

The Snow Pack membership is a combination of tried and true field work, and cutting-edge online tools and resources, bringing you more convenience, more education and more community. As soon as you register for any AIARE 1 or AIARE 2 course, you’ll gain access to our online membership site, chock full of educational content and special opportunities.

Here’s what you can expect from the Snow Pack structure when you take your AIARE 1 or AIARE 2 avalanche training with Colorado Mountain School:

AIARE Coursework

AIARE avalanche training courses are action-packed, combining online coursework and tons of field instruction to provide participants with a solid introduction to avalanche awareness and backcountry travel skills.

e-Learning

We’ve moved the entire AIARE 1 indoor classroom time to an online platform where you can watch videos of our instructors, read case studies, take quizzes and much more–all at your own pace. Because of the heavier focus on application and observations, AIARE 2 courses will be fully taught in the field and will not have online classroom work.

Finish Your AIARE Course in the Field

After finishing your online prep, you’ll complete your course in the mountains, where physical distancing is part of the fun.

AIARE 1 "Split" courses meet for 2 video meetings on the Monday and Wednesday evenings preceding the field days. AIARE 1 Three-Day courses meet for one day in the classroom followed by 2 full days in the field. AIARE hut-based courses and AIARE 2 courses will consist of 3 full days in the field.

Exclusive Learning Opportunities

Your AIARE course is just one piece of the avalanche awareness puzzle. We’re excited to offer new opportunities for students to go beyond the curriculum and learn more from our professional mountain guides.
